About the Showcase

Why establish the Faculty Teaching Showcase?

A large proportion of Penn State courses incorporate some kind of technology, often one of the tools from the ANGEL Course Management System. Although technology opens new opportunities for increasing student feedback, student discussion and using external resources, it brings its own challenges such as the need to master a new set of technology tools and increased opportunities for academic dishonesty.

Many instructors may find themselves wishing they could do more with technology, but are not sure where to search for new ideas. The Penn State Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) unit has asked instructors to contribute their ideas of how they have used technology to improve their courses in the hopes that hearing from peers instructors may inspire their peers.

TLT envisions the Showcase as a dynamic repository in which instructors will add their own ideas.

What's in the Showcase?

The Faculty Teaching Showcase is a repository of ideas for teaching with technology including concrete samples. Each entry includes a description of the idea, the course(s) where it was used, and information about the technology used. Details about the idea can include sample questions or topics, links to other resources, and screen captures.

Who can access the Showcase?

The Showcase repository may be searched by anyone, but only Penn State instructors can submit and edit entries.

How do I find items in the Showcase?

You can either browse by topic type (Instructional Challenge, Creative Tool Use, By Instructor or By Campus or By Course Prefix), perform a quick search or use the Advanced Search screen to define specific criteria.

Can I submit an entry?

If you have used any sort of technology in a course that you have taught and have a original idea others might appreciate, then please consider entering your idea or example using the Sample Entry form.

You will be asked to authenticate yourself with a Penn State Access Account userid and password, then to fill out a form about the course and sample.
